Internet Explorer 4.0 and Netscape 6.0
Here is a really nice DHTML HTML tag highlighter. You simply won't find an easier more useful script anywhere. There are literally thousands of things you can do with this and many different effects you can create for each purpose. I could write a whole website on the different uses of this.
Actually, all it really does is replace one style sheets class name with another one. But the possiblities are nearly endless. Pass your cursor over the form button below and watch the background and foreground colors change. I could have even used background images in this button.
This is not the only way to accomplish this. There is another script for this purpose. But it takes up more room in a page and doesn't do anything this one won't do. I personally like this one because it is so easy to remember. I don't have to dig for the other one because I can type this one in out of memory. Small images work best with this and be sure to make your background colors as close to the background color of the images to reduce flicker.
Above you'll see class="off". This sets the original colors for the button. Then the onmouseover and onmouseout change them when you move your cursor over the button. It couldn't be easier. If you add more classNames in the style sheet you could also make special effects for onmousedown and onmouseup.
Below I'll add this to a table around a search engine to replace the background colors when you type text into the text field. Pass your cursor over the text field and the buttons to see them change color. This doesn't work very well with the select tag. Try this with other tags such as the paragraph tag to see what you can come up with.
